Summary, Etc. "Osnat lived almost 500 years ago, in what is now Iraqi Kurdistan, at a time when almost everyone believed in miracles. She would grow up to be the very first female rabbi in history. She was a woman well ahead of her time, and luckily, her father, Rabbi Samuel Barzani, was a man well ahead of his time, too. She grew up surrounded by books, and although it was not the norm, her father taught her how to read. When the time came for her to marry, she refused anyone who would not allow her to continue her studies; she would NOT be spending her time cooking and cleaning! Eventually, when her beloved father, and later her husband, each passed away, Osnat took over as head of the yeshiva. Any lingering feelings of doubt among her community about a woman being in charge were washed away when she performed miracles, and tales of her power spread across the land. They earned her the name Tanna'it, a title given only to the most respected teachers"--Provided by the publisher.
